Has Team India found its winning touch?
Mohammad Kaif slammed a sparkling century as India's top order batsmen came out of a prolonged form slump to fashion a convincing six-wicket victory over New Zealand in a crucial Videocon Cup tri-series match in Harare on Friday 2nd September. Kaif notched up his second one-day international hundred to lead the batting renaissance as India overhauled New Zealand's score of 278 with 15 balls to spare. This was the record highest run chase ever at the Harare Sports Club. The win has ensured that India will meet the Kiwis again in the final on September 6.
After close defeats and capitulations, the Indian cricket team has this time finally managed a victory over a top-class side. And a fine triumph it was. That they did it while chasing a very competitive total is no mean feat. Although Shane Bond and Daniel Vettori were certainly missed by a New Zealand bowling attack which looked listless on Friday, it cannot take away the credit from the Indian batsmen who applied themselves much better.
India's new found fighting spirit was also on display as they restricted New Zealand to 278/9 after a great start on a beautiful batting track, and then kept their cool while chasing the target.
But is this just another flash in the pan, or is Team India really moving forward? Can we expect such performances consistently? Please tell us what you think.
